Meeting the Animals – Adelaide Zoo

Well, as I mentioned in my post on the Popeye, one of the things that I did when I was a kid was to go for a cruise around the Torrens Lake (which, as you may remember, is actually an artificial lake) and then get off and go to the zoo. Well, in an effort to relive old times, my brother and I did just that – we got off the Popeye and went to visit the zoo. … More Meeting the Animals – Adelaide Zoo

The Overland – The Final Train Journey

Okay, a part of me really likes trains, and I do enjoy the occasional train journey, even if it doesn’t involve travelling at 300 kph between Frankfurt and Koln, and the Overland, the train that travels between Adelaide and Melbourne, is one that I have been on numerous times. … More The Overland – The Final Train Journey

Cruising the Torrens – The Popeye

Even since I was a kid these boats have been cruising up and down the Torrens River. Okay, they may not have been these particular boats as sometime along the way the old wooden boats were replaced with new fiberglass ones (quite possibly because the older ones were getting, well, a little too old). I remember when I was a kid we would jump on the Popeye at Eldar Park, go for a cruise up to the wharf outside the zoo, and then go and have a look at the animals. Well, remembering those more innocent days in my life I decided to take my brother on that exact same journey. … More Cruising the Torrens – The Popeye

Pubs of the Rocks

For some reason every time I come to Sydney I seem to find myself down at the Rocks. Maybe it has something to do with it being the closest thing to an Old City that you get in Australia (I say that because The Rocks is where the original settlement was located and in a way it is Australia’s oldest suburb). Maybe it also has something to do with the pubs because, once again, you will also find some of Australia’s oldest pubs down here. Okay, I’ll admit it – I visited the Rocks this time simply to go and check out all the pubs so that I could write this post. … More Pubs of the Rocks

Gazing the Stars – The Sydney Observatory

I have to say that I’m a bit of a geek, but you would have already worked that out if you’ve read enough of my posts (particularly the ones on my other blog, Sarkology.net). Anyway, I’m not really sure what first lead me to check this place out, but as I was planning my latest trip to Sydney one of the things that I wanted to do was to go on a tour of the Sydney Observatory. … More Gazing the Stars – The Sydney Observatory

Phuket Phenomena – An Elephant Adventure

There was two things that I absolutely wanted to do in Phuket, and one of them was to go for a ride on a Elephant. Okay, a girl that I dated once told me that it isn’t all that fantastic, and in fact it is quite rough, but I took her warning to mind (and she was right by the way, they aren’t the most comfortable of animals to ride) and still wanted to ride an elephant. So, I booked a half day safari tour which involved going for a ride on an elephant (though I later discovered that one of their safaris also involved a monkey show, which I kicked myself for not paying too close attention to the brochure). … More Phuket Phenomena – An Elephant Adventure

Phuket Phenomena – A Night on the Town

I returned to my hotel for some down time, which basically involved sitting at my computer writing stuff (which was a part of my original plan, though after booking the tours that was going to be a little difficult). Anyway, it soon became apparent that I simply wasn’t going to be able to do that, namely because the Hard Rock Cafe (which was across the road) suddenly fired up and all that I could do was resist the pull that the music had to me, and that little voice saying ‘why the hell are you sitting in your hotel room when you could be out there having fun’. … More Phuket Phenomena – A Night on the Town
