Back to the Beach – Patong

I would say that with a hard heart I climbed onto the Ferry to head back to Phuket, but the thing with Phi Phi Island is that there was only so much that I could do there before I became bored. I had pretty much visited all of the bars, and on the third night at the back beach, it just was nowhere near as exciting as it was that first night (and honestly, neither was the music). Okay, maybe I could have gone on that cruise for a little longer, and when we arrived back at port, a part of me was annoyed that we didn’t take the full day cruise, however what happens happens, and it was now time to leave. … More Back to the Beach – Patong

Bangkok – Oriental City

Well, Bangkok is one of those cities that happens to grow on you. Ever since I left that first time on a plane back to Hong Kong a part of me wanted to return. The other thing was that when I was there I lost a copy of A Farewell to Arms (by Ernest Hemingway) and when I finally bought another copy I decided that I wasn’t going to read it again until I returned. Well, I did … … More Bangkok – Oriental City

Phi Phi Don – The Island of the Cats

This isn’t the first time that I’ve been to Phi Phi Island, though the last time, back in 2015, I only stayed for a short time. Basically I took a day cruise from Phuket, which took us to Pileh Lagoon, Monkey Beach, and then we jumped onto the island for a spot of lunch where some guys were wandering around with monkeys charging us ฿100 to hold them and have a photo taken. … More Phi Phi Don – The Island of the Cats

Phuket Phenomena – An Elephant Adventure

There was two things that I absolutely wanted to do in Phuket, and one of them was to go for a ride on a Elephant. Okay, a girl that I dated once told me that it isn’t all that fantastic, and in fact it is quite rough, but I took her warning to mind (and she was right by the way, they aren’t the most comfortable of animals to ride) and still wanted to ride an elephant. So, I booked a half day safari tour which involved going for a ride on an elephant (though I later discovered that one of their safaris also involved a monkey show, which I kicked myself for not paying too close attention to the brochure). … More Phuket Phenomena – An Elephant Adventure

Phuket Phenomenah – Speedboat to Phi-Phi

After a relaxing day wandering around Patong Beach (and a couple of not so relaxing nights) it was time to go on my first tour. However I was a little worried, namely because this isn’t Australia where you can take companies to the ACCC if they rip you off by taking your money and vanishing into thin air (not that the ACCC can do all that much when that happens anyway – it is still a case of caveat emptor). So, I went into the lobby of the hotel (after having breakfast) with my laptop and book in my backpack (which was going to be a mistake) to wait for the bus to come and pick me up. After five people coming in calling out ‘James Bond Island’ and one calling out ‘Phi Phi Island’ I was starting to get a little worried. However the driver soon turned up, collected me, and took us off to the Royal Phuket Marina where our tour company, Sea Star, was based. … More Phuket Phenomenah – Speedboat to Phi-Phi

Phuket Phenomena – A Day at the Beach

The tour guide in Singapore made a comment that Singapore has four seasons: hot and hotter, and wet and wetter. Well, I guess I must have landed up in the Wetter Season because when it rained it really did rain. I was quite fortunate that I remembered to take my umbrella the night before because at one point the rain began to full on pelt down – and amazingly my umbrella managed to survive (though I guess it has something to do with rain in Phuket not being accompanied by gale force winds). I have experienced tropical rain previously – in Hong Kong. … More Phuket Phenomena – A Day at the Beach

Phuket Phenomena – A Night on the Town

I returned to my hotel for some down time, which basically involved sitting at my computer writing stuff (which was a part of my original plan, though after booking the tours that was going to be a little difficult). Anyway, it soon became apparent that I simply wasn’t going to be able to do that, namely because the Hard Rock Cafe (which was across the road) suddenly fired up and all that I could do was resist the pull that the music had to me, and that little voice saying ‘why the hell are you sitting in your hotel room when you could be out there having fun’. … More Phuket Phenomena – A Night on the Town
